I was out on a photography field trip with my students yesterday, and I brought them out into the woods to look for interesting shots. While we were there I saw how some of the trees were being cut down to make more walking paths through the woods. At first I thought it was ironic that they were cutting trees down, so that people could walk through to enjoy nature. If they keep cutting there's going to be nothing to enjoy. But then after everyone walked away I look at this one stump left there, and I saw the rings inside. This tree is at least 80 years old; maybe older, the things it's "seen" the changes it's been through. It looked so serene to me, yet at second glance you see the reason this tree is down....the saw dust. Anyway; I liked this scene, and I think the picture actually came out pretty good. But it still makes me think....

The Headman

This is a statue of "The Headman". The 9-foot-tall bronze " statue is in the Brown's Island section of Canal Walk, a park that follows the shore of the James River. It particularly commemorates the role of African-Americans as skilled boatmen in the early days of commerce in the Richmond area.

This is one of the three bridges to get onto Brown's Island. It's one of the newer ones butdefiently the most modern and eye catching.

From the top of the bridge you can look down on the canal and see a nice sidewalk that was laid to walk along the canal.

Patitos

These are some ducklings I came across a couple of weeks ago. They were so vibrant in color and looked so cute I couldn't help it.

This was on Browns Island a couple of weeks ago. This guy looked so lonely sitting out there all by himself. But I think what he was really contemplating was whether or not he was going to jump from the rope swing attached to the rail road tracks above him.

Have you ever had a tomato sandwich from a tomato straight from the garden; one which you have grown? I don't even like tomatoes but give me a fresh tomato, some bread, mayo, and salt and pepper and I'm a happy camper! This tomato is actually being grown by a bunch of four year olds at work, but still, the same end is in sight for this particular tomato. That's summer....

Simplicity

I like this photo just because of the
immenseness (is that a word?)
of the backround, and the
simplicity of the balloons.
